The IC697RCM711 is a redundant communications module developed by GE Fanuc, serving as a core component in the brand’s redundancy systems. Its primary role is to ensure uninterrupted operation, real-time synchronization, and reliable data transfer between the primary and secondary PLCs in a redundant setup. Engineered for durability, it supports both Hot Standby and Enhanced Hot Standby configurations—making it an optimal solution for applications where high availability and minimal downtime are critical requirements.
Key Features
High-Speed Parallel Bus Expansion Interface: This interface enables rapid communication between the primary and secondary PLCs in a redundant system, facilitating seamless synchronization and smooth data exchange to maintain system consistency.
Hot Standby & Enhanced Hot Standby Support: These two configurations allow for instant failover—automatically switching control from the active (primary) CPU to the backup (secondary) CPU in the event of a system failure. This capability ensures minimal operational downtime and continuous performance.
Flexible CPU Redundancy Configurations: The module is compatible with multiple CPU redundancy system setups. In case of primary CPU issues, it enables uninterrupted continuation of critical processes by transferring control to the backup CPU.
Shared I/O & Synchronization Messaging: It establishes a dedicated channel for transmitting shared I/O data and synchronization messages between the primary and secondary units. This ensures both units remain aligned with the system’s current state at all times.
Manual Control Switch: Equipped with a pushbutton switch, the module allows operators to manually transfer control from the active unit to the backup unit. This feature enables maintenance on the active unit while keeping the entire system online.
MS-DOS-Based Software Configuration: The module is configured via MS-DOS programming software, allowing users to customize redundancy settings to match specific application requirements.
LED Indicators
LED indicators provide an intuitive, at-a-glance view of the module and system status:
BOARD OK: Illuminates to confirm the module is functioning correctly.
LOCAL READY/ACTIVE: Displays the operational status of the local system.
REMOTE READY/ACTIVE: Shows the status of the remote system connected via the expansion bus.
